Garment exports to quota countries up 20.11 per cent in July
 
Exports of readymade garments to quota countries in July 2004 grew by 20.17 per cent in terms of quantity and 20.11 per cent in value terms at 97.7 million pieces and 424.6 million dollar respectively.

Garment exports during the first four months (April-July) of the financial year amounted to 422.7 million pieces valued at 1728 million dollar, an increase of 7.67 per cent in terms of quantity and 11.71 per cent in terms of value, as against the corresponding period previous year.

Exports to the US in July 2004 increased by a whopping 56.85 per cent in terms of quantity and 37.21 per cent in terms of value at 37.8 million pieces and 193.6 million dollar respectively.

In the first four months of the fiscal, exports to the US increased by 15.21 per cent in quantity terms at 158.3 million pieces and 12.52 per cent in terms of value at 765.7 million dollar.

Garment exports to European Union in July 2004 increased by 3.59 per cent in terms of quantity and 8.40 per cent in terms of value while in April-July, they rose by 4.29 per cent in terms of quantity and 12.28 per cent in terms of value.

Exports to the EU in July '04 stood at 97.7 million pieces valued at 424.6 million dollar while in April-July, 2004 it was 823.6 million pieces valued at 3324.1 million dollar, according to data compiled by Apparel Export Promotion Council. PTI
